The beginning

You are walking on traditional cobble stones which are characteristic and natural.

The simple wood-stack that you can see to your left is made in the traditional way. The walk visiting “Cataste & Canzei” describes in its thirty artistic installations how from a log, intended for heating the home over winter, there can be a transformation into a story and creativity. On your right, following the arrow your eye is encouraged to peep around the corner. There is a display case which exhibits the internal sections and the bark of the main types of wood found in the Mezzano forests. It is interesting to have under one’s eyes this immediate difference between one wood and another and to try to guess what it is most suitable for.

Now, you can follow the arrow as you approach the narrow alley. You will come across many alleys walking today, they are lined with stables, haybarns, houses, balconies; all beautiful scenes that you will see around the village. This alley in particular was the old southernmost part of the village. South of here, there were endless fields of maize, the church and rectory were isolated and there were a couple of mills and a pair of water powered sawmills.

A feature of this alley is its small bridge, that from the perspective of Mezzano Romantica we felt it opportune to rename it “The Bridge of Dreams”. The information board explains why. Do climb up and immortalise the moment with your loved one.

Oh! One needs so many eyes! Now look to your left. You will catch a glimpse of the idealised “Ancient Forest” through the covered passageway. There is a lot to see in this installation: the tall trees, the intertwining branches that symbolise human relationships… All encapsulated in the silhouette of a back lit forest, all drowsy in the winter whilst waiting for the buds to return.

The Lontra hotel will take you in the direction of the next arrow. You will then find two more, one again to the right and the other to the left. I will meet you there.
